According to the materials presented in this week, what does it mean to say that sociology makes the familiar strange? – asked by wellesley professor
The professors discussion of biography and history of sociology and the larger public issues… – social media, and death and politics… (globally in sociology ) was a focus I almost leaned toward in initial response.
Maybe I find a response, from her lecture on biography and history from a global perspective in sociology. But biographical sociology of individuals in week 1, the stories of focus on historical sociology. “over the years” – she said the citizenship issues regarding her brother grew. Historical sociology along with Global sociology.
The familiar as calling it strange, in regards to coming up with an example in sociology. This at first appeared a challenge as when I first completed a collegiate course in sociology and my developed human behavior studies over the years looking for strange and familiar together in sociology seems in difficult academic declared disagreement with strange sociology as true. I’d argue false.
So, the familiar as calling it strange, in regards to sociology repeated question to me to provide a response, I seeked and answer beyond what could work on just a small specific example in only that kind of case of such minute groups.
I probably wouldn’t agree that familiar is strange in general, but especially not to sociology. The professor said, “In biography in history about 1:02 one minute two seconds that, “…most of us, abut 97% of us, live in our countries of origin.” Its sociology and its familiar Global sociology.
So living in our country of origin is familiar but not strange. and mentioned as this weeks question as a result of a quote from this weeks lesson. To seek response from in as well as generally availability of provided educated response-d examples
As strange on familiar – weird – no – a study – seeking predictions, maybe not a fully science, but I’d like to be able to conduct accurate conclusive analysis when available and goes toward consistent outcomes or dare I claim the word and call this familiar for purposes of explanation.
So the challenge sociology – familiar is strange- where? Where it goes against expectations – but sociological behavior or event took place. The actions or behavior was familiar but from where – the expected prior studies – discrimintatioms or stereo types or categories and classifications.
I’d expect a credit card bill to be paid by at least 16 years or older , not a child or infant, picking up their bill and saying, “this is mine. I got to go make a minimum payment.” Funny. The actions are familiar but from where.
It isn’t strange. They do sociological things, but how would it be strange? It wouldn’t be unless something. It would be different. It wouldn’t be the sociological thing Unless, no….. So , no I still protest there is nothing strange in the question, I originall heard. In typical expected sociological behavior is what the question was changed to – no not strange. Meaning I originally understood what is strange that is sociology which is called sociology learned and with that learning that it is somehow strange?
So, comedy might be the closest strange. Therefore, a child, a bill comment. Or intentional comedy in sociology by comment or actions. Sarcasms and so on and so forth. – Expected or otherwise. And comedy could make the audience to it in sociology feel strange dependent on the specific or broadness or about the funny and might be tied closer to the person. In typical expected sociological, no. I heard in what would be expected sociological only like comedy but finding strange in general expectations of sociologics of people, no?
